What Are Tonsil Stones And How Do I Get Rid Of Them?
Treatment options for those suffering from tonsil stones has become widely available over the past several years. Unfortunately, there aren’t any “one and done” solutions. But with some changes to your regular oral habits combined with regular use of the products available, it is possible to keep the little buggers from being a nuisance.
It’s definitely no fun at all when one of these annoying little tonsil rocks gets stuck right at the base of your throat. It won’t go up. It won’t go down. It hurts to swallow, and if you’re really unlucky, it will have the most awful taste imaginable. Getting these things to go one way or the other is often and challenge, and can even leave you feeling a little queasy afterward.
If you have ever wondered where your bad breath comes from, this will certainly give you a clue. Tonsilloliths are made up of the exact same bacterial sulfur compounds that give you bad breath. In fact, these tonsil stones are sometime the *only* cause of your halitosis problem. Get rid of them, and you get rid of the bad breath too!
Some try to squeeze out the tonsillolith by pressing and scratching at the tonsils with their fingers. Others attempt the same procedure using an implement of some kind to push them out of the crypts within the tonsil. Please be aware that this can be a potentially hazardous and unhygienic method of removing the stones with the possibility of making them bleed and feel sore.
If you really must dig in there with your fingers, at least be sure to use the best hygiene possible. Wash your hand thoroughly and use a clean piece of cotton if possible. Again, it’s better to remove it out of your mouth then down your throat. Otherwise you risk the gag and vomit scenario as mentioned above. It sends the tonsillolith down your esophagus, which can actually worsen the bad breath problem.
There is one other option, and its the choice I have been using for almost 6 years now. it is a total oral hygiene kit created by a dentist who is also a trained biologist. By combining his two specialties, he has created a product that get to the root of the problem by eliminating the problem bacteria without leaving your mouth dry – which ends up leaving your mouth more susceptible to a new invasion of bacteria!
